One of our favorite rising stars, ALX, has been a bit too quiet for our liking since his last drop "Stranger" in October of 2020. However, it's safe to say he's been gone for good reason, as he's gearing up to become a father, and life the past year and a half has been far from normal for any one of us. The great news is ALX is officially back, and he's making his absence felt with the release of arguably his best track to date, "Right Guy."
A subject matter that often doesn't attract enough light, ALX creates an anthem for the "sidepiece," that unassuming guy that ultimately turns into the right guy after all. Bringing warm Florida summer energy, ALX sings affectionate melodies with his standout vocal tone – equal parts polished, and unrefined – over freewheeling guitar chords, and indie drum work. Immediately, "Right Guy" feels a bit more mature lyrically, and more personal than his previous releases. The diversity in the verses, almost rapping, while still retaining the calming singing nature in the chorus, strikes a beautiful balance for this addicting indie summer anthem.
ALX wastes no time proving it was well worth the eight month wait for new music. With "Right Guy" running at 1:42 seconds, I can almost guarantee you'll be running it back a handful of times after your first listen. I'll be enjoying this moment of new music today, but I can't help but wonder if this is just the start of more singles to follow shortly after. In the meantime, listen to why ALX is the "Right Guy" below.
