BabyJake has been making noise in alt-rock and indie circles for years now with songs like “Cigarettes on Patios,” “Head in The Clouds” and “Touch.” Now, after dropping the catchy pop-rock ballad “Bottom of a Dirty Shoe” in late May, the Florida singer-songwriter is back to switch things up with the single “Arian(e)”.

Jake takes a surprising yet refreshing turn into folk on “Arian(e)”, showcasing his versatility while still having an authentic, honest sound. The track’s instrumentation is much calmer throughout, with quieter drums and soothing guitar. On top of the warm mix is Jake’s voice, much more toned down at first. Of course, things explode towards the end as the repetition of “I can’t live without the thought of you in the morning” ascends into shouting over pulsing guitars. This sudden buildup at the end of the song is passionate and refreshing, leaving listeners ready for more by the end. Aside from a collection of demos released in January, “Arian(e)” is only Jake’s second single of the year, yet it already showcases such a wide range of his creativity and musicianship. Look for more to come from BabyJake as the summer progresses.
