Cardi B Makes History with “Bodak Yellow,” Receiving a Certified Diamond Award

Right on the heels of international woman’s day, Cardi B has made history. RIAA took to Twitter this morning, tweeting, “Congratulations to @iamcardib, the first female rapper to achieve a RIAA single award! #BodakYellow @AtlanticRecords.”

We all remember Cardi’s 2017 chart topper “Bodak Yellow” featuring Kodak Black, and we now know Cardi wasn’t lying in the song when she rapped, “I don’t dance now, I make money moves.” Cardi B has been a trailblazer for female and male rappers alike since she bursted onto the scene, consistently finding ways to change the game with her patented Brooklyn voice and flawless flow. More recently, Cardi B teamed up with Megan Thee Stallion in the polarizing single, “WAP.” While Cardi celebrates her first diamond hit, “WAP” is chasing “Bodak Yellow” at a record pace, already 5x platinum since last summer. The queen of rap plans to stick around for the long haul, and she continues to break barriers for her peers, similarly to how rappers like Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim did for their respective decades. I know we might be a day late, but happy international woman’s day, Cardi B.
