Welcome to the 18th volume of Freddie’s Finds! Each week I will spotlight 3-4 of my favorite new tracks of the week, ranging from a variety of genres and artists. This week includes Asha Imuno, Satya, JASMINEGOLD, and Dave Coresh.

“ZIG ZAGGING” by Asha Imuno

Asha Imuno’s return has been a long time coming – it’s been over a year since his last single, and approaching the two year anniversary of his fantastic debut album Good News. “ZIG ZAGGING” marks a new era as Imuno continues to explore what he is capable of, pairing a bouncy, feel good beat with darker lyrics. Speaking on the track, he said, “The lyrics pull from a feeling of running from the pain that comes with truth, knowing full well that deep down I can never outrun what's coming to me. The dark subject matter over the bright music is an expression of the duality I find in my everyday life.” Between a smooth hook and even smoother verses, Imuno allows the listener into his mind, exploring his mental health over the last year as he sings, “Still zagging / Infatuated with all of this madness.” While his sophomore album is on the way, expect a loud summer from the blossoming star.

“Oakland” by Satya

Step into the world of Satya: a beautiful voice carrying an even more beautiful message. Through relationships and heartbreak she has explored the significance of self love, however, her latest release delves into her love for what is closest to her. “I actually wrote Oakland when I was in New Orleans during hurricane Ida,” Satya said of her process. “I was falling in love with somebody so it was really devastating but also a really beautiful time in my life. The song is also about my love for my chosen family and of course Oakland.” Stunning vocals flutter across the track, wavering between heart melting harmonies and delicate verses. A grainy, VHS style video enhances the warmth of the track, and as the final 15 seconds slowly fade out you can't help but feel that you have experienced a perfect hug.

“Broadcast” by JASMINEGOLD

When I first listened to JASMINEGOLD’s last single, “Conscious,” I knew that I had just stumbled across something amazing. It didn’t take long for the duo to follow this up – their latest release, “Broadcast,” sees them transcend in a new direction, straying away from their soul sample infused style and into glitchy production. Although just over a minute long, the track is jam packed with emphatically delivered bars, each member displaying the flows that made their first two releases so intriguing. The future is certainly bright for JASMINEGOLD, and I cannot wait for their debut album, Serpent, to drop on July 27.

“PYMFB” by Dave Coresh

It’s time to switch things up a bit as we venture into the incredible chaos that is Dave Coresh’s “PYMFB.” Straight from the beginning, Coresh’s energy is palpable, almost certain to have you bouncing off the walls as he exclaims, “Pump your Motherfuckin’ brakes! / Whoa!" From the ad libs to the thrashing guitars, he creates quite the earful on the self produced track. If you somehow didn’t feel ready to run through a brick wall just from listening, then the video is sure to do the trick, featuring, among many things, Coresh sliding upside down on the roof of a moving car. Although it may take a few listens to get into, this is sure to get you hyped up.
