This is week eight of my producer picks and this one featured all branches of music from Miley Cyrus to JELEEL!. This was another stacked week full of producers putting artists in the best position to make bangers. Here are my producer picks of the week:
This is easily one of my favorite tracks to come out recently, as dv4d continues his awe-inspiring run of delightful singles that top the charts. “Worthless” is no different, and I would argue it is his best track with his most dynamic vocal performance. The production allows him to shine over the beat with a simple, yet unforgettable guitar riff and you can thank Spencer Stewart. He has worked heavily with the likes of Role Model, Alina Baraz, and Laufey on their respective projects, and I hope he works more extensively with dv4d because this song is everything that makes him great.
Miley Cyrus just dropped her long-awaited album, “Endless Summer Vacation,” and one of my favorite tracks is “Muddy Feet,” featuring Sia. I love the filtered keys over the top of this punchy drum bounce that brings something unique to the table for Miley Cyrus. Zwiffa helped produce this one with Mike WiLL Made It, Jesse Shatkin, Jerome Williams, and Jonny Coffer. This is Zwiffa’s biggest placement to date and it is well deserved for the prodigy from the Netherlands.
Another underrated song this week is “Passionate” by two young stars from California, Blxst and Roddy Ricch. This is the second track of Blxst’s four track EP, Just For Clarity 2, and the chemistry from both artist’s is undeniable. Blake Straus produced this one and while the production is lowkey, it brings out the summery vibes in full force. I love the filtered guitar and the atmospheric drums, adding perfect contrast to the instrumental. Straus has worked with the likes of YG, Kyle Dion, and DC The Don.
I love when artists take a different direction with their music and that is exactly what JELEEL! did on “GNARLY!” Will Van Zandt produced this track and the bounce on the drums and the simplistic nature is what makes this song memorable. There is a clap, an 808, and a couple accent melodies that leaves room for JELEEL! to do his drop dance that is already making noise on Tik Tok. Van Zandt has worked with other notable artists such as Future, YNW Melly, and G Eazy.
It didn’t take long for ThankYouWill to make it back on this list. The Internet Money phenom has had a quality run with Rich Amiri, producing on his recent tracks, “Salty” and “Poppin.” Will is one of my favorite sample makers right now, as he has a way of putting artists in the best position to bring their best vocal performances out. He has done it with yvngxchris on “Giig'' and Lil Tecca on “Never Left.” “Salty” features these really catchy leads and it adds so much to the already great Rich Amiri singing.
