“take me to the moon” is an effortless, dreamy display of vulnerability. The NY-born artist Julius is back again with his second release of 2021, following his single “compensate me for all of my loneliness” with Sabrina Lee. “take me to the moon” is the next track off his highly anticipated album 12 steps to forgetting your ex, and it’s a beauty.
One of Julius’ biggest influences growing up was his mother, who’d take the time to sing to him before bed. In “take me to the moon,” Julius gives his mom a shoutout, singing, “I don’t ever wave the flag, throw the towel, forfeit / Mamma told me following my heart was too important.” Well, not only is Julius following his heart, but he’s sharing his heart with all of his listeners. Over the lumbering beat, Julius is honest and soulful, using his atmospheric vocals to create a rhythm that leisurely glides along. In a momentum-building hook, Julius sings,
"Don’t let me fall again,
I don’t fall too easy,
I fall way too hard,
Don’t let me fall again,
Cause falling leaves bruises,
And falling leaves scars."
Although the track is emotionally packed, there is an underlying positive vibe that has become commonplace in Julius’ vocals. The LA based singer/songwriter always finds a way to create a congenial mood to match heavy-hearted lyrics, unapologetically telling his fans exactly how it is. Honest and polished, Julius hasn’t missed in 2021. Give a listen to “take me to the moon” below.
