As festival season comes into swing, promoters are releasing their lineups in anticipation of a big summer turn out with the lessening threat of COVID-19. An entirely new event will be on the calendar this year as Lets Get Fr.ee has announced “A Conscious Carnaval” 2-day concert series in Queens. In its first annual weekend of shows, Lets Get Fr.ee has secured a compelling group of artists to perform for a radical cause.
Lets Get Fr.ee and A Conscious Carnaval is “designed for and by Black, Brown, Asian/Pacific Islander, and LGBTQIA+” creators in an attempt to elevate equality in the festival space. They have accomplished this in their lineup selection, choosing artists who highlight the spirit of the creators and represent the identities they seek to empower. Headlined by Missy Elliott, Jorja Smith, Wizkid, Anderson .Paak, and Ozuna, the first annual carnaval will be held in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on August 20th and 21st.
While pulling some big names to fill the late-night stage, the undercard performers are poised to deliver memorable performances as well. Saturday’s lineup will feature plenty of diversity in both acoustics and identity representation with UMI, Bakar, Raveena, and Yendry in opening roles, though they have the talent and catalog to outperform their positions. Sunday stays consistent in featuring María Isabel, Tems, Deb Never, Teezo Touchdown, Audrey Nuna, Weston Estate, and Fousheé, among others. Lets Get Fr.ee has made a strong first impression, booking must-see talent across the ticket and motivated by a cause all fans should be glad to support.
Tickets for the festival go on sale on March 9 at 10 AM EST.
