At a time when so much of the rap game is talking about the same few topics, OnCue’s latest single, “CYBERTRUCK,” is a breath of fresh air. In the track, OnCue floats on the hooks and spits on the verses and shows why he deserves even more recognition in the melodic rap space.
Geoff Sarubbi, or OnCue, has been making a name for himself since his first release. A college dropout, OnCue’s decision to pursue music has put him through his fair share of ups and downs. He’s seen the lows and the highs, all the way from being “starving [and] down bad,” as he mentions in the new track, to full on Coachella performances.
“CYBERTRUCK” was written about the Tesla truck before it was actually released, at a point when it was all folklore. It’s an inspirational message about chasing your dreams and making things happen, even when they seem difficult. OnCue equates the Cybertruck with success, and pictures pulling up in this semi-impractical vehicle on the people who once doubted him. Produced by Yellow Trash Can, it’s a track you won’t want to miss.
The Connecticut native continues to prove his versatility. He’s released upbeat, lighthearted songs like “GOOFY WHITE BOY,” and he’s released down-tempo heartbreakers like “I-95,” which is the song that put him on my radar. It caught my eye because as a fellow east coaster, I too have spent countless hours driving on I-95. The vocals, lyricism, and production in this 2020 single could easily put him in the conversation with Juice WRLD and Post Malone.
OnCue has been surprisingly self-sufficient in his career. Unlike many artists, he has a hand in his own production, artwork, and music videos. He’s currently pumping out content like a mad man on social media, and he’s preparing to drop numerous singles in the near future.
If for some reason you haven’t heard of OnCue, “CYBERTRUCK” will be a great place to start. Check out the comedic Caleb Edens-directed music video or stream below.
