Orion Sun’s 2 year absence was certainly felt. While 2022’s Getaway EP held its value throughout this hiatus, the breakthrough project also intensified hunger from fans for more strong-willed vocals sprung from the Los Angeles-based singer. In her return, Orion Sun picks up where she left off - “Already Gone” features the same comforting instrumental found in her past work as she pens familiar pains, delivered with soft conviction. Her perspective and performance suggests maturity in her time away, a resentful acceptance flowing through the narrative of lost optimism towards love. The song arrives with a visualizer that captures the track’s energy: somber but courageous, wounded but determined to persevere. "It's about that first night alone when your partner moves out and it's obvious nothing will ever be the same,” Orion Sun says of the song. “You try to change it or fix it or run from it but you have to come home eventually. The silence becomes heavy like water. Everything was a task. Everything was hard. I was holding on to hope like a life raft. Only in retrospect is it kind of funny. It seems dramatic and annoying but it was so true to me then.”
The past 24 months have been anything but stagnant for Orion Sun: since becoming one of R&B’s most promising voices, she has been in demand across the industry. After joining Daniel Caesar as the opening act of his Superpowers World Tour, Orion Sun hit the studio with some of music’s biggest acts, including Baby Keem, Lil Yachty, and Future, to name a few. Her writing also appears on Bryson Tiller’s recent hit track “Whatever She Wants,” with the track also sampling Orion Sun’s own recording of “Intro” from her Getaway EP. As her name begins to spread like wildfire, “Already Gone” is proof that Orion Sun is far from being stretched too thin. Her trajectory continues to rise, only to be eclipsed by her next move.
