In a recent move that combines some of Hip-Hop's biggest names and business moguls, Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group has announced a partnership with gamma., Larry Jackson’s multimedia artist platform. The move will combine a growing roster of artists including MMG’s Wale and Meek Mill and gamma’s Usher, Rick Ross, French Montana and most recently Sexyy Red.
MMG’s new status as a partner of gamma is predicted to release new music from Ross as well as position him to spearhead various multimedia projects in line with gamma’s mission of their artist centered enterprise. In speaking on the partnership, Jackson says “Rick Ross epitomizes the multimedia and multi-faceted content pioneer that gamma. was created to amplify. We couldn’t be happier to formalize our relationship and propel the trajectory of an already well-established empire.”
After leaving Apple as the company's global creative director, Larry Jackson set out to create gamma. as a multifaceted label that acquired music, film, fashion, web3 and merchandise among others. The company ultimately set forth a multi-platform venture that, according to a company statement, “operates in distinct but connected business segments: recorded music, visual content, media, creative agency, and direct-to-consumer products,” planning to revolutionize the way that artists are able to create. Since their launch in March of this year, the conglomerate has acquired the distribution platform Vidya, launched a podcast series with Naomi Campbell and partnered with film company A24. Bringing along former Interscope CFO Ike Youssef as VP and Co-founder, it didn’t take long for the company to start building its clients. The first to be signed to the label were artists like Usher, Rick Ross, French Montana and most recently Sexyy Red. Jackson also acquired a stake in the Death Row catalog by way of Snoop Dogg earlier this year, focusing on long-term licensing over ownership and giving artists more control.
Additionally joining the merging teams is Ross’s longtime business partner and veteran label executive, Breyon Prescott as executive VP of Content, bringing along with him his Chameleon Music Label and catalog. The joint venture between MMG and gamma. seems as though it's been long overdue, Rick Ross was one of the first artists to sign to gamma. upon its launch earlier this year, and the business powerhouses have been working together for years to produce hits and make historic music moves.
In speaking of his move Prescott said “Larry and I first worked alongside each other with the legendary Clive Davis, where we broke many artists and enjoyed a historic musical run,” says Prescott. “I look forward to introducing fresh talent and compelling new ventures. With my arrival to gamma., I wanted to walk in the door with one of the most iconic artists and business leaders that I have been honored to work with and have shared major success with: Rick Ross! He is not only a one of a kind music legend, but also an incredible human being”
In celebration of the two companies bridging together, Ross and Meek Mill united to release single “Shaq & Kobe” the two rappers first collaboration after a rumored drama regarding Mill and his relationship with MMG. In announcing the partnership, Jackson also hinted at plans to release a full length collaborative album with the two artists, which would be the first project released as part of the deal.
