American music icon Bruce Springsteen has sold his masters for $500 million to his longtime record label Sony Music. The deal is reportedly the largest single-artist catalog purchase ever made.
The deal includes the entire library of Springsteen’s music, including songs like “Born in the U.S.A.” and “Dancing In The Dark.” In recent years, famed artists have sold their masters for massive amounts of money. Last year, Bob Dylan sold his entire music library for an estimated $300 million. Springsteen has become the latest artist to join this growing trend.
Throughout his career as an artist, Springsteen has sold $65.5 million albums in the U.S. alone, won 20 Grammy’s and is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The New Jersey born artist is considered one of the most successful musicians of all time. Neither Sony Music nor Bruce Springsteen have made any public comment regarding the recent deal.
