Even if you don't know Phin Choukas’ solo music yet, you are sure to have heard some of his work with some of the greatest folk acts of our generation. Whether it was his production on the Cape Elizabeth EP by Noah Kahan, or his collaboration on all of Hans Williams’ discography, Phin has been a guiding hand in the new era of folk music.

Hailing from Vermont, but living as a New Orleans transplant has left Phin with a unique music and life education — especially when you take into account his year spent in Georgia that really helped kickstart his solo career. And while producing for others may have been his entry way into the scene, it's clear that what's to come will be a mix of his personal work (under the artist name phin), as well as more co-producing and writing.

With only four songs out in the world, all of which have been released in 2024, phin has already become a force to be reckoned with when it comes to streaming — amassing over 250,000 streams already at the time of writing. His ethos about what he creates and how he goes about his releases is unique from most in the circuit right now, and I believe his focus on the art first and foremost will make all the difference in the long term.

If you don't believe me, you can consult the Spotify curators that put him on Fresh Finds: Folk, as well as on their latest flagship folk-adjacent playlist, Juniper. A lot has happened in a short time for Phin Choukas, but I promise you that we haven't seen nothing yet.
