Childish Gambino has made his return with a new track, "Lithonia," serving as the lead single for his upcoming sixth album, Bando Stone & The New World. Donald Glover has announced that this new project "serves as the final album under his Childish Gambino imprint." The track is also expected to be featured in the soundtrack of his film releasing alongside the project.
"Lithonia" follows the sonic themes of the recent rock revival, similar to Olivia Rodrigo, Teezo Touchdown, Billie Eilish, and opener for his upcoming tour, Willow. Gambino kicks off the track with an organ and vocals about "Cody LaRae," a possible character from his upcoming movie Bando Stone & the New World. The rock influence soon takes over, with distorted guitars, thumping drums, and a thick bass line. Gambino sings passionately through the chorus despite the minimal lyrics: "I feel liberated / Over medicated / It was overrated / Damn, what you want?" The recurring lyrical theme revolves around the repeated line, "nobody gives a fuck," hinting at a possible realization by the main character.
If this is just a taste of what Gambino's final project has in store, we can't wait to hear the entire album.
