Monotony can be difficult to escape. It’s easy to get swept up into a routine, mindlessly doing the same things day in and day out. Breaking out of this senseless cycle requires a lot of sacrifices and is never easy. In her latest single “New Ceilings,” Dava reflects on the challenges she overcame in finding herself and provides empowerment and inspiration to those still finding their way.

In her own words, Dava says “This song was written about survival and staying true to yourself. I was having a hard time financially after moving to LA and my phone was shut off while on my way to this session. I was upset with myself for prioritizing music when I really needed the money from driving Uber to stay afloat. The day I wrote ‘New Ceilings’ I was angry and I wanted a song that felt empowering and validated all the work I had put in up to that point. I ended up choosing different songs for my project but when I revisited this one year later, I felt it needed to be heard because of how authentically it embodies my struggle.”

‍Sonically, “New Ceilings” stands completely on its own, not conforming to any one genre. With a punchy drum pattern, playful use of synths, and an incredibly catchy hook, the song is begging to be played on a loop. Lyrically, “New Ceilings” is incredibly transparent, with Dava divulging into the hardships that come with pursuing a difficult dream. Her honesty is refreshing, painting a much less glamorous, but much more realistic, picture of LA than many people are sold. With her debut EP, Sticky, set to release later this year, “New Ceilings” is just a teaser of the great music Dava has in store to share with the world.
