Add yet another that to the ever growing list of artists announcing they will be releasing music in 2022. Denzel Curry surprised everyone with the release of the trailer for his upcoming project, Melt My Eyez See Your Future.

The video features Denzel walking through a desert in Peru while a video game-esque instrumental plays. It is accompanied with a flurry of information to keep your eye on, including the announcement of the title Melt My Eyez See Your Future. Most importantly, a movie credit graphic was displayed, announcing all of the collaborators on the album – and it is quite the list.

The feature list brings much excitement in itself - Rico Nasty, slowthai, and 454 are just some of the names highlighting the 8 names, the most ever for a Denzel project. However, the producers mentioned bring even more to the table. Kenny Beats, Thundercat, Robert Glasper, Powers Pleasant, and Kal Banx are just some of the many notable producers working on the project, all of whom contain their own skill sets that will hopefully explore Denzel’s voice like never before.

Denzel discussed the album in an Instagram live, speaking on how it will be him creating the sounds that he’s always wanted, but been unable to due to depression and anger issues. It is amazing to see that his mental health is improving, and he said he has been attending therapy and taking other actions to help improve himself. This translates into the theme of the album, which will be life and everything he has been going through the last two years.

The sound will be returning to the genres he grew up listening to, including drum and bass, jazz, poetry, traditional hip hop, neo soul, and he cited D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, and The Roots as some of his biggest influences on the project. There was a layer of secrecy throughout the live video as Denzel didn’t want to reveal too much of the specifics, but one theme remained prevalent – an overwhelming feeling of pride and confidence.

He also spoke on some of the features seen in the trailer, saying that he didn’t want any rappers on the album at first, only vocalists, although this has clearly changed since. He revealed that Rico Nasty, JID, and 6lack will all be on the same track, produced by Powers Pleasant. There will also be more artists featured that weren’t included in the trailer.

Denzel discussed what his future music plans hold beyond this album. He hinted at a potential tour and deluxe album too, yet won’t reveal any of the actual details. He tried to get Joey Bada$$ on the album, and although it didn’t materialize, hinted at a potential future collaboration together. He revealed the only two artists he would want to make a collab album with are Zillakami and Smino, both of which would be easy album of the year nominees. He also announced that he’s trying to put Nostalgic 64 on streaming, his debut album.

His 40 minute live video contained immense amounts of information, however, the most important takeaway is to keep an eye out for the release which will be “COMING TO A STEREO NEAR YOU.”
