It’s never been easy for unsigned artists to get the attention of major and indie record labels, until now.
DistroKid has announced “Upstream,” a new program that will connect artists who distribute music through DistroKid with participating labels. Those that opt in to the new (free) program will have their data shared with the labels directly. The first partner to make a move was Republic Records, which is home to many heavy hitters like Drake, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Lil Wayne, and many many more. Clearly there is demand on both sides and DistroKid can almost act as a matchmaker between the artists and labels. This can certainly be a great way to identify rising talent early and accelerate careers a lot quicker.
